Smart Money Tracking
Nansen-powered leaderboards, holdings analysis, DCA detection, and DEX trade monitoring.
Smart Money Overview
Smart Money is Thrive's Nansen-powered intelligence layer that identifies, tracks, and analyzes the on-chain behavior of the most profitable wallets in crypto. While Whale Watch focuses on individual large transactions, Smart Money takes a portfolio-level view: aggregating wallet activity into leaderboards, behavioral profiles, trade pattern analysis, and scoring models that help you determine which wallets are worth following and why.
Nansen labels over 300 million wallets across Ethereum, Solana, BSC, Arbitrum, Base, and other EVM chains. Thrive integrates this label database with its own scoring and analytics engine to surface the wallets that generate consistent alpha, separate from the noise of random whale activity.

Profit Leaderboard
The profit leaderboard ranks wallets by total realized profit over a configurable period (7d, 30d, 90d, all-time). Each entry displays the wallet address (truncated with copy button), Nansen labels, total realized PnL, win rate, number of trades, average hold duration, and the tokens responsible for the majority of their profit.
Leaderboard Columns
| Realized PnL | Total profit from closed positions over the selected period. Calculated from on-chain buy/sell transactions with cost basis tracking. Does not include unrealized gains from open positions. |
| Win Rate | Percentage of token trades that were closed at a profit. A 60%+ win rate over 50+ trades indicates consistent edge, not luck. Below 50% combined with high PnL suggests a few outsized winners carried the portfolio. |
| Trade Count | Total number of distinct token positions opened and closed. Higher trade counts provide more statistical confidence in the win rate and PnL metrics. |
| Avg Hold Duration | Mean time between the first buy and last sell of each token position. Short durations (< 24h) indicate day-trading patterns. Long durations (> 30d) indicate conviction-based accumulation. |
| Top Tokens | The three tokens that contributed the most profit over the period. Reveals whether the wallet has specific sector expertise or was diversified across many successful trades. |
| Risk Score | A composite score from 1-10 measuring the volatility of the wallet returns. High risk scores (8+) indicate concentrated bets with large drawdowns between wins. Low scores indicate steady, diversified returns. |
Filtering the Leaderboard
The default leaderboard shows all chains combined. You can filter by chain (Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, BSC), by Nansen label (Smart Money, Fund, DEX Trader, NFT Whale), by minimum trade count (to filter out one-hit wonders), and by minimum win rate. The most useful filter combination for finding consistently profitable wallets is: minimum 30 trades + minimum 55% win rate + sorted by PnL. This surfaces wallets with proven, repeatable edge.
Portfolio Holdings
Click any wallet on the leaderboard to view its current portfolio holdings. The holdings view shows every token the wallet currently holds, with the current value, entry price estimate (cost basis), unrealized PnL, allocation percentage, and hold duration. This view reveals what the smartest wallets are currently positioned in, which is arguably the most valuable data point in the Smart Money module.
Aggregate Smart Money Holdings
Beyond individual wallet holdings, the Smart Money module computes aggregate holdings across all Nansen-labeled Smart Money wallets. For each tracked token, you can see the total smart money holdings, the 7/30-day change in aggregate smart money positions, and the number of distinct smart money wallets holding the token. A token with rising aggregate smart money holdings across a growing number of wallets is in active institutional accumulation.

DCA Pattern Analysis
The DCA pattern analysis engine identifies wallets that are systematically accumulating a token over time. Unlike the DCA detection widget in the Market Intelligence On-Chain tab (which shows aggregate DCA activity), this module provides granular detail: the specific wallets exhibiting DCA behavior, their average purchase interval, average purchase size, total accumulated amount, and estimated cost basis.
Why DCA Activity Matters
Dollar-cost averaging is the hallmark of high-conviction, long-horizon positioning. When a smart money wallet with a strong historical win rate begins DCA-ing into a token, it signals deep conviction backed by research or inside knowledge. DCA flows are also structurally bullish because they create persistent, non-speculative buy pressure that absorbs sell-side liquidity over time. Tracking the aggregate DCA dollar flow into a token, combined with exchange outflows, gives you a reliable measure of sustained accumulation pressure.
Identifies wallets making purchases at regular intervals (daily, weekly, bi-weekly) with similar order sizes, regardless of price direction. Distinguishes DCA from random buying patterns using statistical tests.
Get notified when a tracked wallet increases their DCA frequency or order size, indicating heightened conviction. Also flags when DCA activity ceases, potentially indicating the wallet has reached its target allocation.
Charts the total dollar volume of DCA activity for a specific token over time. Rising aggregate DCA volume combined with flat or declining price is the textbook accumulation setup.
DEX Trade Monitoring
Smart money DEX activity is monitored separately from CEX activity because DEX trades are fully transparent and executed on-chain. The DEX monitoring module tracks swaps on Uniswap, SushiSwap, Curve, Jupiter (Solana), PancakeSwap, and other major DEXs, filtered to wallets with Nansen Smart Money labels.
Key DEX Insights
| Early token swaps | Smart money swapping into a new token in the first few hours of its DEX listing. These early entries, especially from wallets with high win rates, are among the most alpha-rich signals available. |
| Large swap detection | Swaps above a configurable threshold (default $50,000). Large DEX swaps from smart money wallets indicate conviction because DEX slippage makes large trades expensive. |
| Liquidity provision changes | Smart money adding or removing liquidity from DEX pools. Removing liquidity from a specific pool can precede selling activity, while adding liquidity signals long-term commitment to the token. |
| Multi-hop routing | Complex swap paths that route through multiple pools to achieve better pricing. When smart money uses multi-hop routes, it indicates sophisticated execution strategies for large orders. |
Perpetual Positions
For smart money wallets active on on-chain perpetual exchanges (Hyperliquid, GMX, dYdX), Thrive tracks their open positions in real time. The positions view shows the wallet address, asset, direction (long/short), position size, entry price, current unrealized PnL, leverage, and estimated liquidation price.
This data is uniquely valuable because on-chain perp positions are fully transparent, unlike CEX positions which are opaque. When the top 20 Hyperliquid wallets by PnL are predominantly long with high leverage, it represents genuine skin-in-the-game conviction. When they begin reducing or flipping short, it is a leading indicator of shifting sentiment among the most informed on-chain traders.

Wallet Scoring
Thrive computes a proprietary Wallet Score (0-100) for every wallet in the Smart Money universe. The score is a weighted composite of historical PnL, win rate, trade consistency, sector diversity, copy trade feasibility (from the Whale Watch analyzer), and behavioral pattern quality. Higher scores indicate wallets that have demonstrated repeatable, copyable alpha generation.
Score Components
| PnL Score (0-25) | Based on total realized profit relative to capital deployed. A wallet that turned $100K into $5M scores higher than one that turned $10M into $15M because the return multiple is superior. |
| Consistency Score (0-25) | Measures the steadiness of returns over time. A wallet with smooth upward PnL curve scores higher than one with extreme peaks and valleys, even if total PnL is similar. |
| Win Rate Score (0-20) | Scaled from the raw win rate. A 60% win rate over 100+ trades is a near-perfect score. Below 50% over sufficient trades receives a zero. |
| Copy Feasibility Score (0-15) | Based on the Whale Watch copy trade analyzer. Measures how much alpha survives a realistic execution delay. Wallets that remain profitable to copy after a 30-minute delay score highest. |
| Activity Score (0-15) | Based on trade frequency and recency. A wallet that trades weekly and was active in the last 7 days scores higher than one that traded twice in the last year. |
Smart Money Workflows
The Smart Money module supports several distinct research workflows depending on your objective.
Token Research Workflow
Check aggregate smart money holdings
Search for your target token and view the aggregate smart money position. Is the total smart money holding rising or falling? How many distinct wallets hold it? What is the 30-day change?
Identify the top holders
Drill into the individual wallets with the largest positions. Check their Wallet Scores, win rates, and sector expertise. Are the holders high-quality smart money or just large wallets with mediocre track records?
Check for DCA activity
Switch to DCA pattern analysis for the token. If high-score wallets are systematically DCA-ing in, it indicates long-term conviction rather than a quick flip. Rising DCA volume alongside stable or increasing aggregate holdings is the strongest accumulation signal.
Cross-reference with derivatives
Check whether the same wallets have on-chain perp positions in the same direction. A wallet accumulating spot and leveraging up on perps simultaneously is a maximum-conviction setup.
Wallet Discovery Workflow
Filter the leaderboard
Set minimum thresholds: 30+ trades, 55%+ win rate, active in the last 30 days. Sort by PnL. This gives you a shortlist of consistently profitable, active wallets.
Run copy trade analysis
For each wallet on your shortlist, open the Whale Watch copy trade analyzer. Check the simulated return at a 30-minute delay. Wallets that remain profitable to copy after a realistic delay are the best candidates for your tracking list.
Add to tracked wallets
Add the highest-scoring wallets to your Whale Watch tracking list. You will receive signals when these wallets open new positions, increase existing ones, or when a consensus event (multiple tracked wallets buying the same token) occurs.
